1. Be aware that our enemy is constantly trying to distract us from spending time with the Lord. Make it a habit to spend some quiet time with Jesus every day, no matter the circumstances, and pray that he will protect you from spiritual apathy (1 Pet. 5:9).
2. When Peter was invited to visit the centurion in Caesarea (Acts 10), the Lord assured Peter through a vision that God does not show favoritism and that the gospel is for people of every nation. Pray that God will use you to bring salvation to people of “all nations” in the name of Jesus, our Lord and Savior (Matt. 28:18-20).
3. Every follower of Jesus is expected to actively participate in fulfilling the Great Commission. Ask Jesus whom he wants you to invite to become his disciples (Acts 10:42-43).
4. If you commit a sin, don’t try to hide it! Run to the Lord and confess everything to him – and eventually to people that you might have insulted. If you hide the sin, it will destroy you from within. But when you honestly confess your trespasses, the Lord loves to forgive and to restore your spiritual strength – and your happiness as well (Ps. 32:4-5).
5. Character involves a man’s intellect, thoughts, ideas, motives, intentions, temperament, judgment, behavior, imagination, perception, emotions, loves and hates. Pray that we as men will be intentional about adding to our faith the virtues of godly character (2 Pet. 1:5-8).
6. It’s been said: “Thoughts create habits, which create character.” Lord, help us to maintain pure thoughts that breed godly habits, which in turn help create Christlike character. (Acts 4:13)
7. The pursuit of character not only is for our own benefit but also ultimately allows us to serve God and others well. Pray for men to see the importance of how character affects others (Mark 12:30-31).
8. World-famous evangelist D.L. Moody said, “Take care of your character, then your reputation will take care of itself.” Sometimes men are more concerned about what others think than about what God thinks of them. Pray for men to manifest godly character in private as well as in public (1 John 1:7).
9. Dear God, in the past I have prayed for such a long time without any results. Thank you for showing me that there is much more to prayer than I thought. I must pray in faith and then step out by faith as your Spirit leads me to do your will. I realize I must also wait patiently on you to bring it to pass. Grant me the grace to do just that! (Heb. 10:35).
10 Heavenly Father, so often when I pray, I only ask you for things, but your Word indicates that praying must include the expectancy of faith. Enable me to be like King David, who waited expectantly upon you. Cause me to wait upon you, and you alone, to answer my prayer. God grant me the grace to pray with the expectancy of faith! (Ps. 62:5).
11. Oh Lord, I thought I had faith, but your Word says that faith without works is dead. I confess that there is very little evidence of faith in my life. Cause me to live by faith in total dependency upon you, so that you can work through me. Enable me to cooperate with you by taking the necessary action steps of faith. Then, as Paul’s words remind us, my faith will become sight! (James 2:17-18).
12. Lord Jesus, I realize that I have limited the greatness of your mighty power. I have been ignorant of what your great power has accomplished in me. I need you to enlighten me by your Spirit. Open my spiritual eyes so that I can see who you have made me to be as a new creation in Christ. Cause me to believe that your power is available to me through Christ (Ep. 1:18-19).
13. When we pray we should come reverently because God is holy. “For thus says the High and Lofty One Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy …” (Isaiah 57:15a). Therefore, we also come humbly into his presence: “I dwell in the high and holy place, with him who has a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones” (Isa. 57:15b).
14. When Moses prayed, he was aware that his intercession was part of the flow of many generations of praying believers. When we pray, we also take our place in a long line of intercessors. “A Prayer of Moses the man of God. Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, or You had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God” (Ps. 90:1, 2).
15. Jesus declared to his disciples, “I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now continued with Me three days and have nothing to eat. And if I send them away hungry to their own houses, they will faint on the way; for some of them have come from afar” (Mark 8:1, 2). Therefore, he miraculously fed the crowd of seekers. Let us pray for the radio listeners to be fed spiritually and to trust the Lord for their physical needs as well.
16. Consider the prophecy for Israel in the valley of dry bones: “‘Surely I will cause breath to enter into you, and you shall live. I will put sinews on you and bring flesh upon you, cover you with skin and put breath in you; and you shall live. Then you shall know that I am the LORD’'” (Ezek. 37:1, 5, 6). God has been providentially re-gathering the nation of Israel. Pray that many of them come alive spiritually through faith in Jesus as their Messiah and Prince of Peace.
17. We pray for listeners to open their ears and hearts to the gospel. The invitation of the Lord Jesus continues today in every culture: “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me” (Rev. 3:20).
18. A growing number of men are single fathers who are balancing work and fatherhood responsibilities. Pray that the Lord will strengthen and encourage them. (Isa. 30:41)
19. When a child becomes a prodigal child, he or she can create a wedge between a husband and wife. Pray that God will draw the fathers of prodigals toward their wives in a spirit of mutual submission (Eph. 5:21).
20. At times, men can feel they are in a no-win situation: Their wives are unhappy, work is hard and unappreciative, and their kids are a challenge instead of a blessing. Pray that these men will turn to God with their burdens and not to the world (Ps. 61:2).
21. Viewing pornography and loving your wife are incompatible. Pray that God will help men to honor their wives with exclusivity in their thoughts and actions (Philippians 4:8).
22. Jesus taught his disciples to pray. Be willing to ask him to teach you as well and to make you a man of prayer. Pray that fathers will teach their children about the importance of prayer and how to pray (Matt. 6:9-13).
23. On Sept. 1, 2017, Lonnie Berger joined TWR full time as the global director of men’s ministry. Lonnie brings the men’s ministry curriculum he wrote, Every Man A Warrior, to TWR. Every Man A Warrior is practical. It is designed to help men love their wives, train their children, fight to stay morally pure and cling to God in hard times. Pray for wisdom from God as Lonnie makes this transition (Colossians 3:17).
24. Jesus said that “binding up the brokenhearted and setting captives free” was the purpose of his coming. Millions of men throughout the world are now broken and held captive by an addiction to pornography. Kent Darcy is working at producing programs based on the material, written by EMAW staff member Bob Reehm, that deal with this worldwide epidemic. Pray for Kent and Bob to have God’s anointing (Eph. 6:19).
25. During October 2017, Edmund Spieker and Lonnie Berger will spend time in Brazil to launch groups and train leaders in the Every Man A Warrior curriculum. Pray for God to raise an army of Christian men who will go on to disciple other men. Pray for Lonnie, who will be speaking multiple times. Pray that God will bring the right men to lay a good first-generation foundation for building the TWR Men’s Ministry (2 Tim. 2:2).
26. All men want to succeed in life. No man wants to be a failure. Yet most men have not been given the “skills” necessary to succeed in their marriages or with their children or with God. Through prayer, broadcasts like Champions Arise devoted to the needs of men, and practical discipleship-training materials like Every Man A Warrior, TWR endeavors to bring practical spiritual help to men around the world. Pray for wisdom as the TWR Men’s Ministry develops (James 1:5).
27. When a man fails, he doesn’t just ruin his own life; the destruction usually encompasses the lives of his wife and several children as well. Men are the key to transforming a culture for Christ. As the men go, so go the wives, the children, the church and the culture. The devil does not want men to assume their rightful place as leaders. Pray for open doors for the TWR Men’s Ministry initiative. Pray for men everywhere to become all that God wants them to be (1 Cor. 16:13, 14).
28. In the beginning, God gave men charge to subdue the earth and to rule over creation. Because of disobedience, men have become prisoners of sin and are in need of redemption. Praise God, Christ paid the price for us on the cross. Through faith in him, men can again be free, receive the gift of salvation and become children of God. Pray that you will be a faithful steward of this amazing gift of new life in Christ and a blessing in your family (1 Cor. 4:2).
29. Jesus spoke of the tempests of life when rain, floods and storms test the quality of our deepest foundations (Matt. 7:25-27). Men should be firmly planted on the eternal Rock of Ages, which is Christ and his Word. Pray that you will be discerning, free from prejudice and strong in your commitment to biblical principles as you navigate our tumultuous times. Proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light (1 Pet. 2:9).
30. That men are suffering an identity crisis is old news. It started when Adam stopped worshipping God and believed the lie that he could manage life better independently. The example of a man who met God’s expectation is King David (1 Sam. 13:14). He wasn’t perfect but had qualities we all need. He was humble in heart. He loved the Lord supremely. He relied on God and led with passion. He was bold against all evil and repentant of his own sin. Pray that God would make you such a man!
