1 Knowledge – “I pray that you will be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding” (Col.1:9). Dear Lord, help us as men to desire Your perfect will and to have spiritual insight to walk in Your will daily, cultivating godly character from Christ’s life within.
2. Walk worthy – “That you might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing” (Col. 1:10). Father, empower us as men to live a life that is pleasing to You, walking in Your ways, seeking Your kingdom as a priority in our lives, making godly decisions in private as well as public.
3. Fruitful – “Being fruitful in every good work” (Col. 1:10) Lord, Your Word says our works are evidence of our faith (James 2). Let our lives show the evidence of godly character in good works, which is a manifestation of the faith of Christ in us.
4. Discipline – “Increasing in the knowledge of God” (Col. 1:10). Father, I pray for the daily discipline of spending time in your Word and prayer that I may increase in my knowledge of You, but not just book-learning, but experience of You in my life.
5. Strengthened – “Strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power unto all patience, longsuffering, and joyfulness” (Col. 1:11). Oh Father, infuse me and my brothers with the Holy Spirit to bear the fruit of the Spirit, overcoming the desires of the flesh.
6. Worship – The psalmist says, “I love the house where you live, Lord, the place where your glory dwells” (Ps. 26: 8), referring to the temple, a place of worship for all the people. My prayer today is that my joy in being with the people of God, the Church, will be preserved during and after the restrictions imposed by the pandemic.
7. Instruction – The education of children has become very complex because of humanist theories and ideologies that are being imposed on society. Lord Jesus, we ask for wisdom and discernment to maintain guidance and direction in raising our children according to Your Word. (Prov. 22:6)
8. Direction – Lord, I pray for perseverance in my quiet time. Teach me how to meditate on Your Word, Lord, and … “Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life” (Ps. 143: 8).
9. Reward – Married life is an opportunity for mutual service, not competition. The Bible shows that…”Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor” (Eccl. 4:9). Lord, help me to be sensitive and willing to help my wife with the household chores and value our time together!
10. Modeling – Jesus said, “Let the children come to me and do not hinder them” (Mark 10:14). As a father I have the privilege of leading my children to Jesus. My prayer, Lord, is that my children will be brought into Your presence through my teaching, and also through my testimony of life as a man who models the joy of the Christian life!
11. Weak – Lord, my prayer today is for those of my brothers and sisters in the faith, who are weak, just like the paralytic who needed to be brought to Jesus (Mark 2:1-12). Whether they be difficulties in marriage, raising children, finances or other problems that discourage them, renew their faith and reveal yourself to them.
12. Prayer – “Blessed be the Lord who has not turned away my prayer, nor his mercy from me” (Ps. 66:20). God is pleased when I seek him trustfully. As I exercise my mind and will in doing this, my heart will be filled with joy.
13. Loving God – “But let those who love him be like the sun when it comes out in full strength” (Judg. 5:31). People who love God have a happy countenance. They become like a shining light for their environment. That is God’s plan for your and my life as well.
14. Gentleness – “Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand” (Phil. 4:5). As Jesus is with me and I experience his gentleness, he enables me to show the same gentleness to others. Pray that Jesus is seen in your life today.
15. Delight – “Delight yourself also in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart” (Ps. 37:4). He who expects fulfilment in life just by living out his sexuality will suffer great disappointment. But a man who allows the Lord to be first in his life can also entrust to him his sexual desires.
16. Understanding – Men and women are different. God created them this way. The Bible challenges each man to make an effort to understand his wife. As we appreciate and honor those differences and learn to love as Christ loves, we will experience the wonderful synergy of becoming one in flesh and spirit. (1 Pet. 3:7)
17. Training – Nobody can give more than he has. Therefore, it is of paramount importance that we men allow God to transform our hearts and to mold our character. Pray to become a man of God who knows his Word and obeys his will. The new generation needs fathers willing to train them in God’s way. (Eph. 6:4)
18. Power – “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit” (Prov. 18:21). Many older men regret their harshness and lack of loving care for their families when they were younger. Pray for forgiveness. It might not be too late to start communicating life through words of love and encouragement.
19. Hearing – “He who answers a matter before he hears it, it is folly and shame to him” (Prov. 18:13). He who is biased loses the capability to be objective. When we start with the wrong assumption, we are unable to distinguish what is the truth. Pray for ears that listen well and be discerning. Remember that Jesus is the truth.
20. Blessing – Jesus gave his disciples the new commandment to love each other. Our old nature is selfish and unless Christ transforms us from the inside out, we will fail to do so. Pray for the Lord to make you a blessing as he fills your heart with his love, compassion, and the willingness to forgive others. (1 Pet. 3:8,9)
21. Deceit – “The cares of this world, the deceitfulnessof riches, and the desire for other things entering in choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful” (Mark 4:19). Nobody is immune to failure. Be alert and keep your focus on what really matters. Pray for a heart in tune with God and allow for his Word to be your compass in life.
22. Be strong – “Finally my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might” (Eph. 6:10). The real strength of a man consists not in what he has, knows, or can do, but rather in who dominates his heart. God wants to equip us for life’s struggles as we submit humbly to His rule and sovereignty. He is strong in our weakness.
23. Armor of God – “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil” (Eph. 6:11). The ruler of this world is the enemy of God. He is the origin of all evil, is a liar and aims to steal and destroy. Be ready to resist as you consciously pray for the Lord to make you fit and ready to do battle.
24. The battle – “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against … rulers of darkness…” (Eph. 6:12). Behind the assault on Christian values, as well as the persecution of Christians in the world, are the evil forces of darkness. Do spiritual battle as you allow for God to rule in your life and pray for those in authority.
25. Take up – “Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day…” (Eph. 6:13). Discipleship is a serious commitment. A disciple is called to deny himself and to follow Christ. Be ready! Take on God’s armor, pray to be faithful, stand for truth, and carry His light into the world.
26. Stand firm – “Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness” (Eph. 6:14). Our sufficiency is in Christ. Let His truth fill your mind and take hold of the righteousness He purchased for you on the cross. Rejoice in your calling and pray for spiritual revival in your life and family.
27. Gospel of peace – “Having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace” (Eph. 6:15). Christ’s work of redemption has satisfied the divine justice and brought peace with God for all. Be a messenger of the good news wherever you go. Pray to joyously live out the Gospel in your marriage and family.
28. Shield of faith – “Above all, taking the shield of faith, with which you will be able to quench all darts of the wicked one” (Eph. 6:16). Cling to God’s promises in times of crises when the fiery darts of doubt, fear and unbelief try to destabilize you mentally and emotionally. Don’t doubt in the dark what the Lord has shown you in the light.
29. Meditation – “And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” (Eph. 6:17). As you allow your mind to be saturated with the Word of God, your will and emotions will align with the prompting of His Spirit. Make time to meditate on the Word of truth and be a man who manages it well.
30. Perseverance – “Praying always…with all perseverance and supplication for all saints” (Eph. 6:18). We have a God who hears and answers prayer. Therefore, make prayer a priority. Pray for your family, pray for people in need, pray for revival in the church, and pray for those who are being persecuted for Christ’s sake.
31. Missions – “Pray for me …that I may open my mouth boldly to make known the mystery of the gospel” (Eph. 6:19). Every Christian is called to be a witness of the Good News. Be transparent for the Christ who lives in you. Love fervently, serve humbly, give generously, relate to others graciously and speak of the gospel freely.
