Prayer Points for April 2018

1. When we go searching for God, it’s important that we search for him where he is to be found: in the Holy Bible. We can see God’s signature everywhere around us, but only the Bible can tell us truly who God is. Pray that God will reveal himself to you today in your prayer and scripture reading. (Exod. 15:11)

2. God wants you to become more like him, and he wants you to be thoroughly equipped for every good work. Pray that you will become the man God wants you to be. (2 Tim. 3:16-17)

3. The Bible tells us that Ezra, the Jewish priest, devoted himself to the study and observance of the Law of the Lord (Ezra 7:10). Isn’t it wonderful? Pray that you will find great pleasure in your own Bible reading and day by day grow in holiness. (Eph. 3:16)

4. Jesus told his disciples to be his witnesses to the ends of the earth. Almost 2,000 years after Jesus said these words, there are still more than 7,000 unreached people groups in the world. Pray that God will show you how you can participate in fulfilling the Great Commission. (Acts 1:8)

5. Thank God for his promise to be with you always, to the very end of the age (Matt. 28:19-20).

6. Dear God, self-preservation is so difficult. I have been doing the best I can to keep body and soul together. But I realize now that what I really need to do is just die. Therefore, I give up. I accept my death with Christ. Now I trust you to raise me up and live your life through me. (Luke 9:23-25)

7. Heavenly Father, I thought if I made the right sacrifices – praying, reading the Bible, attending church and giving offerings – then you would be pleased with me. But I was wrong. Your way is the way of grace through faith, not works. I now realize that I am accepted in Christ, not by works of righteousness that I have done. So, by faith, I purpose to trust and obey you with all my heart. (1 Sam. 15:22)

8. Lord Jesus, all my sincere efforts to keep the law were misguided and ineffective. At best, I was keeping the letter of the law, which can only produce dead works. But now I understand that only you can keep the law. And since you have come to fulfill the law, I cease from all my efforts to keep the law. I trust you to fulfill the law in me. (Matt. 5:17)

9. Oh God, I thank you that I am no longer the servant of sin. You have given me a new heart – a heart after God. Therefore, by the grace of God, I can truly serve you with my whole heart. Thank you for working in me to do and to want to do your good pleasure. So now, instead of merely bodily obedience, I can obey you from my heart – a faith response rather than a flesh response. (Rom. 6:17)

10. A husband’s desire for physical intimacy often exceeds his wife’s level of desire. Pray that husbands will resist temptations to seek other methods of fulfillment and understand that there are consequences for unfaithfulness. (Prov. 6:27)

11. It is important for husbands to have time with male friends. However, pray that each husband seeks friends who encourage him to be a godlier man, husband and father. (Ps. 1:1)

12. The Bible says that “the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.” Pray that men will pursue cleansed hearts so the words they speak to their families encourage and uplift them. (Luke 6:45)

13. Jesus displayed many emotions, yet men often believe emotions are a sign of weakness. Pray that men will allow themselves to display the emotions Jesus did around their wives and children when appropriate. (John 11:35)

14. Because of their upbringing, some men feel they deserve to be served in the household and not share in the work around the house. Pray that husbands will imitate Jesus in coming to serve and not be served. (Mark 10:45)

15. Pray for the teams of dedicated men, who are introducing the TWR discipleship course Every Man a Warrior in different cities in Brazil. The need for godly men who are grounded in the Word and able to lead at home and in the church, according to God’s standards, is epidemic. (Zechariah 4:6)

16. As we have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so we can walk rooted and grounded in him (Col. 2:6-7). We received Christ by grace through faith and can walk (live, abide) in him by grace through faith. Pray that we will see our need for this.

17. Jesus said if we love him, then he and the Father will make their home with us (John 14:23). “Lord, may we love you more and consciously welcome your presence to live in and through us.”

18. This “abiding life” can be cultivated through discipline. Pray that we will not only yield to the life of Christ in us but also practice this awareness through the disciplined cultivation of prayer and reading the Word. (Col. 3:16)

19. Paul wrote “for me to live is Christ” and “I am crucified with Christ, nevertheless I live, yet not I but Christ liveth in me.” Pray that men will model before their families and churches what it looks like to have Christ living in and through them. (Phil. 1:21; Gal. 2:20)

20. When feeling disrespected by their wives, men can forget God’s challenge to “make her holy, cleansing her by the washing of water through the word” (Eph. 5:26). Pray the Holy Spirit will convict men’s hearts to obey Paul’s words.

21. The Enemy takes what God has made and distorts it to ensnare people. So as we pray for victory over temptation, we need to remember that God’s way is always in our ultimate best interest. “For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting; and His truth endures to all generations” (Ps. 100:5).

22. Some religions use rituals, including saying prayers, as a means of spiritual merit and attempted atonement. The gospel, however, reconciles believers to God by grace and welcomes us to please the Lord through loving, personal conversations. “The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord, but the prayer of the upright is His delight” (Prov. 15:8).

23. Because God had the power and purpose to separate the earth’s oceans from land on Day 3 of the creation week, we can trust in his promise that the gospel will continue to advance and that Jesus Christ will one day reign globally following his second coming. “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea” (Hab. 2:14).

24. The apostle Paul confidently interceded: “always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy … being confident of this very thing, that he who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ” (Phil. 1:4, 6). We can have this same confidence as we pray for the spiritual growth of believers who listen to Champions Arise.

25. Western culture has adopted the philosophy of relativism, making it a matter of personal preference as to what is moral and what is immoral. No wonder that biblical truth is being rejected and opposed! Pray that you will be wise and firm in living the principles of the Bible and standing for what is right and true. (Eph. 4:25)

26. We all agree that good intentions are not enough. We need good results. In the spiritual realm, it is easy to become captivated by a religious form instead of examining the real content and focusing on the ultimate result. Jesus alerts us to watch and pray so we don’t fall into temptation. After all, the spirit is willing, but the body (flesh) is weak (Mark 14:38).

27. The greatest battle in life is the battle with self. That is also where discipleship begins. Because Christ Jesus died on our behalf, our old nature died with him (Rom. 6:6) and we are free to choose to follow him. Accept the condition he stipulates and follow the Savior: “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me” (Luke 9:23).

28. Pray for Lonnie Berger, the director of TWR’s ministry for men. After the healing process of his cancer surgery, he is now moving to the central office of TWR. Pray that the Lord will continue to bless the development of the prayer and broadcasting initiatives of Champions Arise and the discipleship-training initiative of Every Man A Warrior. (Eph. 6:19)

29. Pray for Christians under persecution. In some countries, extreme religious groups spread false accusations against them and incite ignorant people to burn their properties and kill them. In other countries, they are singled out because they stand for biblical values and absolute truth and won’t yield to the progressive agenda of immoral behavior. (1 Pet. 4:16)

30. Pray for the Lord to raise up men of valor who know and love the Lord and lead their families with wisdom and character. Pray for a mighty movement of the Spirit of God in his Church around the world. (Mal. 4:2)
